About GameLearn
GameLearn.eu is a free online resource dedicated to preserving and teaching the rules of traditional games from around the world. From centuries-old European card games to the pub classics that bring people together on a Friday evening, our goal is to make every game accessible to anyone willing to learn.
Our Mission
Hundreds of traditional games are at risk of being forgotten. Rules passed down through generations are often unwritten, inconsistent from region to region, or buried in out-of-print books. GameLearn exists to change that. We document game rules with clarity and precision, so that a player in Lisbon and a player in Budapest can sit down at the same table and agree on how to play.
Every guide on GameLearn is written to be complete and self-contained. We include not just the basic rules, but also scoring systems, common variations, strategic tips, and the cultural context that makes each game unique. Where possible, we provide interactive tutorials and score trackers that let you practise before you play for real.
What We Cover
GameLearn focuses on games that people actually play — the ones found at kitchen tables, in parks, at pubs, and during family gatherings across Europe and beyond. Our content spans several categories:
- European Traditional Card Games — regional card games played with local decks, from Hungarian Zsírozás to Italian Scopa and German Schafkopf.
- Classic Card Games — internationally known games like Canasta, Whist, Pinochle, and Euchre that have stood the test of time.
- Outdoor & Yard Games — games best played outside, including Pétanque, Croquet, Kubb, and Mölkky.
- Pub & Bar Games — darts, foosball, shuffleboard, beer pong, and the other staples of any good night out.
- Paper & Pencil Games — games that need nothing more than a sheet of paper and something to write with.
- Dice Games — from Yahtzee to traditional dice games played across Europe.
- Board Games — classic and traditional board games including Nine Men’s Morris, Backgammon, and more.
Multilingual by Design
Games do not respect language barriers, and neither does GameLearn. Our content is available in six languages: English, German, Italian, Spanish, Hungarian, and Romanian. Each translation is written natively, not machine-translated, to ensure that local terminology, regional variations, and cultural nuances are preserved accurately.
Founded in 2026
GameLearn.eu was founded in 2026 with a simple belief: the best games are the ones played face to face, with real people, using real cards, dice, and boards. In a world increasingly dominated by screens, we think there is real value in knowing how to shuffle a deck, throw a dart, or set up a game of Kubb in the garden. We hope this site helps you discover your next favourite game.
